Course Delivery Methods and Assessment

Our trainers and assessors all possess as a minimum a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessing, the unit of competency being delivered and several years of industrial experience. Delivery methods used are a combination of face-to-face lectures, practical demonstrations, group participation and discussions, DVD presentation mentoring, and participation in physical tasks related to the required competency.

All assessments are carried out in accordance with the guidelines set out in the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) 2007 and Standards for users & Operators of industrial Equipment or, Load Shifting Equipment. Although a participant can be judged competent will be maintained due to the degradation of competency or if work habits or industry requirements change.

Dress requirements

Minimum dress requirements are as follows:

  • Steel capped boots
  • Long pants
  • Long-sleeved shirt

Australian High Risk Training will provide any other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hi-vis, hard hats, gloves, etc. Please keep jewellery to a minimum.

Access and Equity – Support Services

Australian High Risk Training provide training programs, which build on individual talents and experiences, recognise and respond to the diversity of individual needs and offer choice and flexibility to cater for individual circumstances.

Under WorkSafe Standards, participants must have basic numeracy and literacy skills to achieve a High-Risk Work Licence. Participants must also have a high standard of understanding, reading, and writing English. We have provided a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Test.

All Australian High Risk Training Assessors and Trainers offer to stay back after class times to provide further assistance through the learning material. Where possible, Australian High Risk Training will make every effort to cater for any individual special needs in relation to our training programs and where further assistance is required, we will provide you with the appropriate resources and contact information.

Behaviour

At Australian High Risk Training, there is a strict ‘no-tolerance’ policy towards drugs and alcohol being consumed at or during training. This includes participants that attend training under the influence. Any attendee abusing this policy will be removed from the training course and may result in cancellation of enrolment.

Due to the high-risk nature of our courses, it is a requirement that participants behave in a sensible and professional manner. Disrespectful or disruptive behaviour during the class may result in a cancellation of enrolment. Mobile phone use during physical and practical activities is prohibited.

Learners Right and Responsibilities

Learners have the right to a learning environment characterised by mutual respect and equal opportunity. Learners have the responsibility not to engage in behaviour that a reasonable person should reasonably know is unsafe or inappropriate.

Fees and Charges

As per our booking policy, we require new clients to make a deposit of 50% of the total cost before any training is confirmed. Any remaining balance will be due the morning of the course commencing. Fees may be paid via Visa or Mastercard, bank transfer or cash. This may be exempt where companies have filled out our Credit Application Form and are using a Purchase Order with an invoice has been issued with specified payment terms.

Due to the cost of archiving, search, administration and stationery, the replacement of lost or stolen Statement of Attainments or Australian High Risk Training issued cards incur a fee of $20.00 for each item.

All courses subject to WorkSafe approval include the processing fees. The temporary WorkSafe Licence given upon completion lapses after 60 days form issue date. Overdue course fees may result in the application being delayed or expiring. If an application expires the participant is required to re-sit the course, which will incur further costs. If photos and/or identification is not provided at the time of the course this will result in the application being delayed or expiring as WorkSafe will not accept any incomplete application.

Cancellation/Rescheduling Policy

This policy requires notice at least 5 business days from the course commencing to obtain a full refund. If less notice is given, you may be subject to being charged for the full amount. We do offer to reschedule your enrolment to a more suitable time within this time with an additional administration fee of $20.00 will apply. Rescheduling out of the 5 day timeframe will not have any additional charges.

If the participant has paid fees in advance, 15 days’ notice from the course commencing us required to obtain a full refund. If notice is given 5 – 14 days before the course commencing, Australian High Risk Training will offer to change the scheduled course date to a more suitable time. This will be valid for up to 1 year from the first course date booked.

Please note refunds and schedule changes for on-site training differs to the above. Please On-Site/Private Training for clarification.

Australian High Risk Training will offer a full refund for fees paid in advance where a schedule course is cancelled or rescheduled to a date that is not suitable for the participant to attend.

Where a client/student fails to attend a schedule course, they will be liable for the full course cost and there will be no offer to change the scheduled course date unless a medical certificate is provided.

No refunds are given for participants who do not obtain a qualification after the assessment. Depending on the reasons of the participant receiving a Not Yet Competent assessment, a re-sit of the course at no extra cost may be offered.

Refunds will be given via EFT Bank Transfer to your nominated account or via credit card details. An alternate person may be substituted at any time at no extra cost. If an alternate person is to attend, notice must be given prior to the course commencing.

Record Keeping

Australian High Risk Training is currently converting all records from paper to electronic. Once all paperwork has been converted; we will no longer hold records in paper form.

Accessing Participant Records

Personal records can be accessed by contacting the office at Australian High Risk Training. We are happy to provide electronic copies of certificates for a small fee and assist in obtaining any information you may require regarding the progress and outcome of your participation in a course.

Replacement of High Risk Work Licences are processed through WorkSafe WA. They can be contacted on 1300 424 091 or by emailing wslicencing@commerce.wa.gov.au. Information about the replacement of lost, stolen or damaged cards can be found at WorkSafe WA. Search WorkSafe for “replace high risk licence” if page not found.

On-Site/Private Training

Australian High Risk Training offers on-site training to companies based outside of the Perth Metro Area. Certain requirements need to be met in accordance with WorkSafe before on-site training can occur. This includes, but is not limited to, classroom/training room, machinery, tools, and other equipment, etc. To verify, please contact us.

A day rate or cost per person will apply depending on the training to be performed. If the fee is charged per person, 8 participants will be charged for each course. The client is required to organise and pay for flights, accommodation, car hire and messing (if applicable). There will be an additional cost if flights are booked the day before training commences or the day after training is completed. An invoice will be sent at the time of booking providing your company has filled out and signed Australian High Risk Training’s Credit Application. If this has not been received, we may request payment at the time of booking.

If inclement weather interrupts the course proceeding, the full fee will apply for the training booked. This also applies if there are cyclone drills or any other reason on the client’s behalf of why the training cannot proceed or be completed. If, for any reason, a trainer is needed for longer than the specified dates, additional fees will apply.

Any cancellations that are made by a client for On-Site or Private Training with at least 20 days’ notice before the first course is scheduled, we will offer to move the course to a more suited date or issue a credit/refund for course fees. If notice is given in less than 20 days, the full fee will still be payable.

Assessment

The organisation’s assessments meet the requirements of the Training Packages and the outcomes specified in accredited courses within the scope of its registration. The organisation ensures that all assessments:

  • Comply with the Assessment Guidelines in the applicable Training Package or assessment requirements of accredited courses
  • Lead to an AQF qualification or statement of attainment when a person is assessed as competent against endorsed unit(s) of competency in the applicable Training Package or accredited course
  • Are valid, reliable, fair, and flexible
  • Provide for applicants to be informed of the context and purpose of the assessment and the assessment process
  • Where relevant, focus on the application of knowledge and skill to the standard of performance required in the workplace and cover all aspects of workplace performance, including task skills, task management skills, contingency management skills and job role environment skills
  • Involve the evaluation of sufficient evidence to enable judgements to be made about whether competency has been attained
  • Provide feedback to the applicant about the outcomes of the assessment process and guidance on future options in relation to those outcomes
  • Are equitable for all persons, taking account of individual needs relevant to the assessment
  • Provide for reassessment on appeal

Complaints Procedure

Complaints should be made when a client is unsatisfied with the standard if service they have received.

Informal Complaints Procedure

  • The issue or complaint should be brought to the attention of the Australian High Risk Training staff member/s involved in person immediately.
  • The staff member/s and client/s involved should attempt to create a fair resolution that satisfies all parties.
  • In the event an informal complaint does not produce a suitable resolution, the client may submit a formal written complaint.

Formal complaints are required in writing within 7 days of the issue occurring. Australian High Risk Training takes all complaints very seriously and will endeavour to resolve any issues as soon as possible, no longer than 14 days.

Formal Complaints Procedure

  • The informal complaints procedure should be used first.
  • All formal complaints should be given to an administration staff member in the front office or emailed to ahrt1@live.com
  • The complaint will be recorded on our Opportunity for Improvement Register and then given to the Director for Australian High Risk Training.
  • An email or letter will be sent to the complainant confirming the complaint has been received.
  • If the participant was booked into the course by an employer, the employer will be notified of the complaint.
  • The Director, staff member/s, and client/s involved may meet to discuss the issue and possible resolutions.
  • The Director will make the final decision to the resolution of the issue and communicate the decision to all parties involved in writing.
  • The action and resolution will be recorded on our Opportunity for Improvement Register for future reference.
  • If the client is still not satisfied, they may make a formal complaint to the Department of Commerce Consumer Protection division.

Complaints and Appeals Form

Appeals Procedure

In accordance with the AQTF2007, Australian High Risk Training has an appeals procedure in place, which outlines the steps a participant/client can take if you feel dissatisfied with the outcomes of the training. This process is displayed at our office and will be addressed as part of the induction into the course.

Grievance Procedure

Likewise in accordance with the AQTF2007, a grievance procedure is in place to allowed participants/clients to resolve any grievance that may arise during training. Australian High Risk Training has an ‘open-door’ policy where any grievance can be discussed with the training centre manager or representative.
